Mark 1:16-18 New International Version (NIV)
Jesus Calls His First Disciples 16 As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 17 “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” 18 At once they left their nets and followed him.
Wednesday - January 27 Many people are worried about the future of Christianity in America and specifically in our Lutheran churches. Here, Jesus makes a promise and when Jesus makes a promise he keeps his word! We know this is true because he promised that he would rise again and… he did! Jesus has called us to “follow” Him and HE will make us into fishermen who “catch” people. Following means listening. We follow Jesus by listening to His word of promise and trusting that He will actually do it! This is why Simon (Peter) and Andrew “immediately” left their nets! They heard the voice of Jesus.
