God Has Spoken...You Are Forgiven and Loved!

Luke 5:4-6 New International Version

4 When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.” 5 Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets.” 6 When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break.

The church season of Epiphany celebrates how Jesus revealed Himself as God in the flesh. In this passage Jesus is revealing that he is the God of creation! Genesis 1:2 says that the Spirit of God was hovering over the “waters” of creation. Then God begins to speak. On day 5 God said, “Let the waters swarm with swarms of living creatures.” FISH! Here the disciples have been fishing all night. This was their livelihood. They knew how to fish and they caught nothing! Then Jesus shows up and says go back out into the depths and fish. Peter said, “at your word” we will go back out. The rest is history. God is speaking! God is creating life. This is what God does and what God’s Word does. God has spoken. You are forgiven and loved.
