Message from our pastor
Welcome! Whether you are looking for a church home or simply visiting and passing through, we are so very glad you are here. We pray that, in your worship with us, you might have a genuine encounter with the crucified and risen Lord, in whom alone our weary souls find rest.
In his Son, Jesus Christ, God has flung open his arms in forgiveness and embrace of our fallen world, mercifully calling and inviting sinners to return to him. And so, we pray that, by entering his house of worship, you hear God saying to you, “Welcome home.”
Your servant in Christ,
Pastor Blobaum

Our Mission and Heritage
For over 140 years, St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church has made hope real in the lives of those in Flanagan, IL, and beyond, by proclaiming the life-changing gospel of Jesus Christ, the light of the world. Jesus Christ died to save sinners, and the mission given to the church by the risen Lord is, to invite others to new and eternal life in him through Baptism and instruction in the godly life. Therefore, the mission of St. John’s is to introduce people to Jesus, help them grow in their relationship with him, and equip them to go and do likewise. We are committed to doing so through worship centered around word and sacrament, and through education and outreach.
Rooted in the rich Lutheran Tradition, St. John’s is dedicated to fostering a deep understanding of the gospel and faithful discipleship to Christ, by holding fast to the catholic and apostolic faith, “the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints” (Jude 1:3). We believe in the transformative power of faith, and all people – from the least to the greatest – are invited to join us in following Jesus, “the Way, the Truth, and the Life” (John 14:6).
We welcome you with the love of Christ!
